DO YOU KNOW FOR SURE YOU ARE GOING TO HEAVEN?

“A professor of philosophy in a university was lecturing on the lack of certainty in our age. “Certainty is impossible,” he said. “We can know nothing for certain.” A freshman raised her hand and asked, “Professor, are you sure of that?” “I’m certain!” he replied.”

Yes, we live in an age of uncertainty. We’re learning more and more about everything and yet we seem to know less and less for sure.

One very important thing to know for sure is if you are going to Heaven when you die. The Bible is very clear that we can know for sure. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” (I John 5:13)

One of the characteristics of the first followers of Jesus Christ was their certainty. They didn’t guess…or hope… or wish. They knew for certain. You can know this truth and have certainty as well. “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”(II Peter 3:9) “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (I Timothy 2:4-6)

All “roads” will lead to God but not all will lead to heaven. “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27) “Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:5, 6)

You can know this truth and have certainty as well.

Admit you are a sinner.

Romans 3:23 reads, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Understand that God loves you.

God loves you so much that He gave His own Son to bear your sin and die in your place. II Corinthians 5:21 says “For He hath made Him [Jesus] to be sin for us… that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”

Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins.

Romans 5:8 says “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Although we may not completely understand how Christ paid our sin debt, we must trust God and remember He cannot lie.

Confess and repent of your sins and commit your life to Christ.

We must acknowledge our sin before God who “…commandeth all men every where to repent.” (Acts 17:30) Repentance demonstrates our change of mind into agreement with God that man is a sinner and that Jesus releases us from the debt we cannot pay. Romans 10:9 says “…if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” God’s promise is good for all as He promises in Romans 10:13 that “…whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” You can commit your life to Jesus Christ and receive Him as your own personal Savior today.

The following is a suggested prayer:

“Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I ask you, Lord Jesus, to come into my heart and make me a new creature. I thank you for the forgiveness of my sins and the free gift of salvation and eternal life. I commit my heart and life to you forever. Help me become the kind of person you want me to be. In Your name I pray, Amen.”

The Bible says in II Corinthians 6:2, “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
